Welcome to Leaping Horseman Books

Leaping Horseman Books is a small publishing house that specialises in books about the Eastern Front, and Stalingrad in particular. Our aim is to publish books and other material that is of interest to many people but that is not being produced by larger publishers. Stalingrad is a very popular subject - and there are indeed dozens of books written about it - but there is a surprising lack of new information. It is the lofty goal of Leaping Horseman Books to try to rectify this shortcoming.

UPDATE 15 April 2010

OK, time for an update. It’s a good sign that an update is overdue when emails come in asking if we’re still in business. The answer is definitely a resounding “yes”! Sincerest apologies for the delay in updating the website. It has been a hectic time in the Leaping Horseman Books office over the last year, and time has absolutely flown. The main reason for tardiness in updates is due to Jason’s wife giving birth to their first child in January 2010. As can be imagined, this arrival has proved to be a pleasant distraction.

Enough of the personal news, let’s get down to business. Several books are in the works. Some are on hold while awaiting further research to come in but others are on track for publication this year. The first one, due for release in a few months, is a book about a foreign unit that met its end in Stalingrad. No more details can be given at the moment but those of you with some knowledge of the battle should be able to work it out. Another book slated for publication this year is a detailed history of Pionier-Bataillon 305, from its formation until its demise in Stalingrad. A vast amount of rare material (photos, diaries, letters, etc.) has been gathered for this book which allows an insight into the thoughts and actions of one battalion. We follow the men from a life of relative comfort in France into the dark depths of Russia, experiencing combat from a pioneer’s perspective and feeling the painful impact of every man’s death. The quality and detail of information found for this book needs to be seen to be believed. The battalion was far from being a “glamorous” unit that covered itself in medals, yet the battles in which it fought make its story worth telling.

“Death of the Leaping Horseman” is still sold out: a reprint is not currently being planned. However, if there’s enough demand for it, a reprint will be considered, so please register your interest (use the “Contact Us” button in the yellow menu bar to the left). The hardcover edition of “Island of Fire” is completely sold out… even all the imperfect copies have been sold; however, the paperback edition is still available but stocks are dwindling.

Finally, and as always, we would like to thank all of our customers for your support throughout 2009 and for the many encouraging words about our titles.
